Monday Preview (10/10/2005)

More to come…

Monday: Today we look forward to meeting the new Men's Sabre and Women's Epee champions.

Men's Sabre is presently cycling quickly on the main strips in the center arena, soon to be replaced by Women's Epee. Meanwhile, on the 12 side-strips, Women's Sabre preliminary pools just completed, and soon Men's Foil pools will commence.

Men's Sabre: 64-1st

USA Sabre is started strong in the preliminary rounds, losing only 4 bouts in four pools -- Adam Crompton (world #466) notably went undefeated in a pool containing Spain's Jorge Pina (#22) and Andrea Aquili (#41).

In the table of 64, Jason Rogers faces Rares Dumitrescu (Romania); Ivan Lee faces Eun Seok Oh (Korea); Timothy Morehouse faces Fernando Medina (Spain); and Adam Crompton faces Dmytro Boiko (Ukraine). Unfortunately three Americans are in the same Tableau, and Lee will eventually face Crompton, and then Rogers, if they all have a good day,

Morehouse (#38) has a well-matched first round at 10am, where he faces Spain's Fernando Medina (#32).

Women's Epee: 64-1st

In Women's Epee, US Fencer Kelley Hurley (#72) survived the preliminary rounds (3/3), but has a tough first bout in the round of 64 -- she faces Maureen Nisima, the World #11 from France. Hurley is #72. Maya Lawrence (#95) went 3-3 in her preliminary pool, but didn't win the bout to enter the 64.

Canadian Fencer Sherraine Mackay (#6) will be climbing the same bracket as Imke Duplitzer (Ger) the current world #1, and will meet if they both make it to the final eight.
